01 / MEET MATT WEYEN
A remarkable place is only half the story.
The other half is who you're out there with. Matt brings years on the rock, a strong technical climbing background, and experience introducing new people to canyoneering. He's just as much a part of Wondering Trails as the canyons, rivers, and trails themselves.
He's not a name on the website who hands your trip to someone else. The person you talk to about your experience, your questions, and what you hope to find is the person designing the adventure—and leading the way.
That's what makes this company personal. One guide, a whole lot of experience, and room for your own kind of adventure.
02 / MATT, IN HIS ELEMENT
A little rock. A little river. A lot of life.
Canyon days, mountain company, and a well-earned camp chair. A few glimpses of the person behind the adventures. Select a photo for a closer look.

04 / YOU DON'T HAVE TO START AS AN EXPERT
Curious is a good place to start.
Never been canyoneering? It combines hiking with moving through canyon terrain—sometimes scrambling over rock or descending on a rope. Some adventures are built for learning. Others ask you to bring technical experience.
Matt can help you sort out the difference. Tell him what you've done, what excites you, and what makes you hesitate. Start with Zion Canyon Discovery, or simply ask which trip might fit.
Good preparation matters. Physical demands, equipment, weather, water, and access all shape the plan. A guided adventure still involves real outdoor risks; the conversation begins before the trailhead.
Planning your adventure budget
The current base rate is $935 per day, per person. Estimated base totals are:
- 1 day — $935 per person: Bruneau packrafting, Owyhee canyoneering, Darby Ice Cave, or Western Montana caving
- 2 days — $1,870 per person: Alpine Lakes backpacking
- 3 days — $2,805 per person: Zion Canyon Discovery or Redwood Coast backpacking
- 5 days — $4,675 per person: Zion advanced canyoneering, Hanksville / Robbers Roost, or Boundary Lakes canoeing
These estimates use the current daily rate, not an all-inclusive package price. Confirm final pricing and whether equipment, permits, taxes, transportation, meals, and lodging or campsite costs are included or extra with Matt before making plans.
YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE STARTS WITH A HELLO
You bring the curiosity. Matt brings the experience.
Have a trip in mind? Still figuring it out? Tell Matt your preferred dates, who's coming, and a little about your outdoor experience. There's no need to have every answer before you ask.
This is an inquiry, not a reservation. Confirm the route, suitability, final price, and inclusions with Matt before making plans.
